Hi Peggy and Bernie thank you for including me on your email list for blog. I was wondering how Bernie was doing. I am sorry to hear about your illness and the constraints that come with it. But it sounds like the Lord is guiding you all the way and you have the love, support, and encouragement of your family. I will keep you both in my prayers. I leave for my first mission trip on 9/11 to Romaina and Russia.Love

Mom + Dad - I can't get over the fact how you both have remained so positive during this time. We are all here to support you in everyway we can, yet it is you who continues to show the love and support you have always shown. I wish I lived closer so I could be there for you both more than I have been able to, but I want you to know that the two of you are always in my thoughts and prayers
and that will never change. I love you both.

Dear Friends,
You are, as always, in our prayers. You have always given so much to all of us - please let us help you in whatever way we can. My favorite hymn, too, is Be Not Afraid; you have lived your life walking with Jesus and you have nothing to fear on this new journey. Remember always how much you are loved. Tom and Nicki

Hi Bernie and Peggy!

Paul and I are honored to walk this Journey with you, as you did ours back in 88 with AML (20 years....can't believe it has been that long) This road appears even more treacherous, but that is for the unsaved, and those without the faith you both have shown us how to muster from that mustard seed.

Chris...fantastic job on the blog site! When I get the information ready for the Marathon Run (October 08)for ALS can we create a link?

Looking forward to future postings and news on Bernies surgery...

Well we figured out how to get to the blog! This morning we were driving back from DC where we spent a weekend, telling lies, and watching others drink beer, at a bi-annnual (every two years?) reunion of Marine Combat Helicopter Association (Popasmoke)members. At 7 a.m. this morning we went to Mass in Fredericksberg, where Fr. Bill Korpi is the associate pastor. Bill celebrated his second Mass at the CFL Center this summer, about one week after he was ordained as a priest.

Our prayers are with you. From what we have read on the blog, things are very difficult but your closeness as a couple, your family, faith, and a lot of pluck
still make you Bernie and Peggy.

We will pray for you every night. You have always meant a lot to us. God bless you and your sons. Thank you for telling us about the blog. We are in transition from the house at the ebach to a house within 100 yards of our youngest son, and youngest grandson (4 months). We have not gotten an internet hook up, yet, and we check our email at our son (Jimi's) house.

God bless you, and pray for us that we may continue to serve the Lord where ever he leads us.

We still remember and laugh at your story of the lizards on the wall in Puerto Rico!

I only read the first post from Kim and Chris. I wanted to read the rest AFTER I posted to see if what I suspected was true: that all of them would pretty much have a similar sentiment: That you and "Uncle" Bernie are THE MOST incredible people I have ever and WILL ever have the blessing of knowing.

My new family have been having some trying times recently and the one thing that always makes me realize how lucky and blessed we've been is knowing you and your INCREDIBLE story of faith, love and patience.
We will always love both of you and will always do anything we can to be there for you although physical distance keeps us apart at times. You both are ALWAYS in our thoughts and prayers!

You are incredibly loved,

Glad you were able to all go to the zoo! You never cease to amaze me, Peggy. Mobile in your mobile. Sounds like everyone had a great time. What is with the little elevators? Are they meant to be just for one wheelchair? Bernie not mentioned, but assume he is doing OK. I have worked some extra hours at the nursing home, so have been busy this week. Don had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday and is doing fine. Amazing what can be done in such small incisions. Took day off from work and went in this morning (Wed) for ½ day. I just came upon this blog and several other ALS blogs yesterday. I appreciate your great spirit. I did not have time to read through them, I just put them where I could return to them. Please give our best to Bernie--wish we could have seen him too that day--and keep smiling. With all our love and prayers, Bill & Carlotta

Hi, I'm Leslie, the roomate, travel companion and friend from the 60's, before marriage, family, jobs and distance came between us for 40+ years.
Yet several Fridays ago we came together again, without a skipped beat, we shared the same interests, understandings, laughs, values and memories.
Dear Peggy,
I loved that day and I want more. I don't want to lose you again my dear friend to distance, time and ALS. I am so glad we have this way to stay in touch. I can't wait to come again. Perhaps we could see some churches and great art as we did those 3 months in Europe, or drive the Skyline Drive or have some laughs with Bernie.
I pray every day for more graces:
family, friends, book clubs, lunches, dinners, movies, plays, "the Rocketts", sunrises, sunsets, giggles, music, computers, our faith, the Caddy, the beach, nurses, doctors, pills (ugh), guardian angels, Chris, Kim, Sarah, Patrick, Sue Ann, Amber, Alyssa, Charlie and your wonderful Bernie (as in blovesp and plovesb ).
I love you, Leslie

My heart goes out to you...I do know how much you are hurting. God will care for you. I love you and thank you and Bernie for being so much of my life.

I bet Tillie was at the gate welcoming Bernie home. And Phil was not far behind.

I will keep you in my prayers, Peg. But I don't know of any other person on earth who is more deserving to meet the Lord. Your suffering is hard to understand except for the fact that it brings more people closer to God. I believe that both Bernie and yourself were chosen to be martyrs to bring the stray sheep home. When Mia died at 13, the whole neighborhood changed. People stopped complaining and offered up their few sufferings. I think the town of Warrenton now is changing because of Bernie's example, and you continue to be an inspiration. The Hamp's came back to Florida this week. I picked them up at the airport after having done a 20 hour trip from Delaware. Toni said that she had seen you at Outback, after Bernie had died. I think that smile she saw was pure happiness on your part knowing that your beloved was safely in Heaven.

I cannot be there for the funeral service, but over dinner tonight, Bill, Toni and I lifted our wine glasses and gave a toast to Bernie...a life well lived and well served.

God bless you, Peggy. You will be constantly in my prayers. Love, Margy

The girl said, she was smiling at God. In good times and bad times I have always seen the light of God in your face. Your actions and love of others has made you stand out as a person of courage and of good character. As Chris your son said, about his father. The same can be said about you, “You are among the great people of this world”. You will always be in my prayers. May God continue to be by your side, now and forever. Tish Castelar

Dear Peggy,
You often refer to your “angels” in your blog. After our trip to Vermont I know first hand what that means.
When you and Julie and Bob included me in the Vermont vacation I was so pleased to have the opportunity to catch up. After our adventures at NYU Medical Center and Europe in the 60’s we settled and raised our families in different states, keeping in touch with yearly Christmas cards and photos.
It was in Vermont I met Julie. How gently she cared for my friend, meeting physical, emotional, spiritual needs with the tenderness of a sister, mother, daughter, midwife, nurse, physical therapist, chef, musician, priest, friend, “angel”.
And Bob was our unspoken knight in shining armor, practically moving mountains to facilitate a safe and good time, all the while with a camera in his hand and walking backwards.
Sooo… What’s an “angel”? I’ve met two I will never forget. Thank you Peggy for sharing them with me, teaching me to be a friend, accept help, and let “angels” love us. I love you, Leslie

Dear Family and Friends of Peggy ~
Sincere sympathy from my heart to all of you. May the Lord comfort, strengthen and encourage you every day. May the pain of all you witnessed her suffer and her absence from this world, be eased in knowing she is whole, no longer in pain and praising God in His very presence.

With deepest sympathy

Annette
